COLUMBIA - The Columbia Disc Golf Club braved the cold weather Saturday and got together to raise money for the mid-Missouri Food Bank.

The disc golf club has been around for more than 20 years, but Saturday marked the first time the club had ever played on a ball golf course.

Temperatures in the twenties and snow on the ground didn't keep the golfers from playing the game they love, but Saturday's game wasn't just for fun. It was for a good cause.

"The focus of this tournament is to raise money for the Mid-Missouri Food Bank," player Mark Ehlert said. "Every player paid a $30 entry fee and half goes directly to the food bank and we've got a donation box, a raffle and some other ways to raise money."

More than 50 people came out at the Columbia Country Club and weren't just playing for trophies or to improve their game, they're playing to stock the shelves of the food bank. They hoped to raise close to $800 at the event. Every dollar donated to the Central Missouri Food Bank will provide up to 20 pounds of food.

Disc golfers will hold another tournament for the food bank in January.

"It's a good time as well," Elhert said. "We've been raising money for the food bank for 20 (years), this will be our 24th year."

Welcome to the Columbia, Missouri Disc Golf Club website.  Columbia is home to three popular disc golf courses, and the front course at Albert Oakland Park was the second permanent basket course in the state.

The club sponsors several signature events throughout the year including the Mid-America Open, Twenter Memorial Club Championship, and the (first ever) Ice Bowl.  We also feature seasonal league play, moonlighters and participate in numerous charity events.

Be sure to explore the rest of the  website and feel free to leave comments, see what's happening on the message boards and check out the club's upcoming events.  We truly hope you can come out and play all three of our great courses.  Enjoy the weather and this great game!
